Boulevard of Broken Dreams – Taliesin Arts Centre
Boulevard of Broken Dreams comes to Taliesin, Swansea on Thursday 12th February (7.30pm) opening a UK World Premiere tour. In this unique collaboration, two leading artistes in the fields of music and dance explore unpredictable encounters as different cultural influences merge with explosive and inspirational effect.
Jean Abreu is currently one of Britain’s most eagerly watched choreographers and performers. Currently based in London, he combines western contemporary movement with cultural traditions of Latin dance and capoeira from his native Brazil. Cardiff based composer Charlie Barber has a deserved reputation for combining musical influences from a variety of genres. Together they have created this stunning and insightful performance in which two quartets compete and converge on stage in a striking portrayal of the urban condition.
Four dancers, including Jean Abreu, are joined live on stage by the Cardiff based; Mavron String Quartet who will perform Barber’s original work. Charlie Barber is known for his passion to bring together musical genres and in this new piece, he combines Latin influences, world beats and live music with interweaved, electronically generated soundscapes.
Boulevard of Broken Dreams: The title has been widely used within art, literature, film and music, from Gottfried Heiman’s variation of the Edward Hopper painting (Nighthawk) to songs by Marianne Faithful and Green Day. Now John Abreu gives us his version.

The Bells of Shoreditch by Dirty Protest at The Sherman Theatre, Cardiff
15 January 2009 – 16 January 2009
Dirty Protest
By Tim Price
Paul has been suffering from anxiety attacks. He can’t stop himself throwing his property over bridges. He goes to work with no shoes. He’s a man falling apart. So he puts an advert in the newspaper for a bedmate. Someone to sleep, to help him through the night. We follow Paul on his journey through London, with the loneliest people he can find.
With the support of Sherman Cymru and the Arts Council of Wales, Dirty Protest have workshopped this full-length play. Seeking to fill the vacuum between rehearsed readings and full scale productions, they hope this development production will be the first of many.
Buy tickets now, and avoid the queue….it means you can spend more time at the bar

TwitPanto Performance on Twitter brings the house down.
I wrote a brief piece about this to try and help promote the idea. But the phenomenon of twitter created a huge following for what’s turned out to be a fantastic achievement for Jon Bounds and the rest of the #twitpanto team with their fabulous panto performed in the wacky world of twitter.com
If you’re wondering what happened, what people said, and what all the fuss was about, then I recommend you take a look at a great website by Matthew Somerville where he’s done some fantastic scripting to hack through all the tweets and bring you the whole ‘performance‘.
theatr peña presents: The House of Bernarda Alba
Obsessed with family honour, Bernarda Alba rules her household with an iron fist. Following the death of her second husband she announces to her five daughters that their period of mourning will last eight years. But under the oppressive heat of the Andalusian sun, passions reach boiling point and an explosion of desire, jealousy, hatred and despair threatens to bring down The House of Bernarda Alba.
theatr peña is a gathering of some of Wales’ finest actresses, theatre practitioners and associated artists, who share a passion for engaging and challenging theatre and a desire to create contemporary productions of classic plays.

What to see this week according to the Guardian Theatre Blog
It seems like such a simple idea really, this blog is all about actors and film and theatre etc. So, I thought that someone out there, eg. The Guardian, would be the best place to recommend folks took a look to see whats on where and who/what to see.

Watch out, It’s Behind You – Jon Bounds is creating a twitpanto!
What on earth am I on about you might say.
Well, in a nutshell, this chap called Jon Bounds has gathered friends and acquaintances to create a twitter panto.
I know what a panto is, but what’s twitter?
Twitter is a micro blogging phenomenon with millions of users across the world, sort of like Facebook status updates but without all the crap.
So twitpanto then, what’s that?
Well, apparently all will be evident from 2pm on Tuesday 23rd December, as Twitpanto takes to the virtual stage and dozens of twitterers hide behind the curtains of the internet. Good luck to everyone involved, and what was that … it’s behind me?
Tidy Films releases posthumous Actors Work

Click here to watch all three videos.
Actors Online is finally to be created after over 10 years.
What can I say?
I’ve been a little busy.
Not much of any excuse I grant you, but that’s the way it goes. I actually had the idea for an online website for actors to showcase themselves and discuss projects, way back in 1996 when I lived in London acting in Radio Drama for the BBC.
And now, in 2008, I’m suddenly alive with the whole concept again.
So, here it goes. Join in, enjoy, and get in touch. Tell me about your projects, your shows, and anything to do with walking the boards or the cutting room.
